A Masterton teenager who died when the car he was a passenger in spun out of control and rolled on Wednesday night has been named.
He was Thomas Mark Brian Morison, from Masterton.
The 19-year-old driver of the car remains in a critical condition in Wellington Hospital.
The crash was about 10.20pm near Eketahuna, 40km north of Masterton.
The pair were travelling south when the driver apparently lost control of the car, which slid into a culvert and rolled.
A farming family watching late-night television told the Wairarapa Times Age they heard a huge bang and, on rushing outside, saw flames shooting out from underneath the crashed car.
When they went out to the car with fire extinguishers they found two young men slumped in the remains of the car, its lights out and on fire.
The cause of the crash was under investigation and police want to hear from anyone who had information about the activities of Mr Morison and his friend during the afternoon and evening.
