Teen killed in Easter car crash named

Police have named a 19-year-old Taranaki man killed when the car he was driving crashed into trees on Sunday evening.

He was Norton Savage, from Tariki, 37km southeast of New Plymouth, Constable Mark Taylor said.

The accident happened on State Highway 3 at Eltham, 50km south of New Plymouth.

A 21-year-old man from Eltham was also in the car and had to be cut from the vehicle before being taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Police believe excessive speed contributed to the crash and the serious crash unit was investigating.

Mr Savage was one of five people who died on the roads during the Easter holiday period.
