A teenager killed in north Canterbury two weeks ago is now believed to have been the driver of a car that crashed into a concrete power pole.
Police initially believed that Tarrin Kayne Alderson, 18, of Rangiora, was a passenger in the car that hit the power pole about 1.40am on May 25.
The only other person understood to have been in the car was admitted to Christchurch Hospital with serious injuries. Both were thrown from the vehicle in the impact.
North Canterbury police sub area commander Senior Sergeant Mike McRandle said police investigations had confirmed the crash survivor was a passenger. He understood the man was recovering from his injuries at home after being discharged from hospital.
Police said he survived largely because he was wearing his seatbelt.
