He said Ioane had appeared before him on a previous occasion, reading a magazine in the dock while court proceedings were happening.
Judge Wade said he had been so appalled by the teen's behaviour that he sent him to the cells over the lunch break before remanding him on bail.
He said he had been prepared to consider a sentence of home detention or community detention but changed his mind after seeing a pre-sentence report from Probation Services.
"I gave him the opportunity to show his ability and some remorse but he's gone out of his way to show me that he wants to go to prison."
Ioane's lawyer Michael Kan had asked that the judge consider his client's youth and the fact he had never had an education.
Judge Wade told Mr Kan that "unfortunately you have been shot in the foot".
Judge Wade read from the probation report and quoted Ioane's comment about the stabbing.
Ioane told Probation: "I wanted to leave a mark on them so they would remember me."
He said: "I felt proud and she deserved it."
Ioane also said he smoked cannabis three or four times a week "to relieve tension".
Judge Wade said he struggled to see how Ioane could be so tense, given he was not in education or employed until he read that the stress was due to PlayStation games.
Judge Wade read from the report, quoting Ioane: "I get tense when I can't get to the next level and I have to relieve it".
He said Ioane told the probation service that he had one job as a cleaner but only lasted a week because the work was "too hard".
He said Ioane had told Probation: "Put me inside, I've got mates there, I will go and see them."
Judge Wade said: "It that's what you want, Mr Ioane, that's what you get."
He sentenced Ioane to 15 months in prison.
Ioane gave the court room the fingers as he was led back into the cells.
