An Auckland man appeared in the Whangarei District Court yesterday on a charge of wounding with intent to injure.
The 19-year-old victim remains in the critical care unit of Auckland City Hospital, Whangarei police said.
The charge against the 18-year-old defendant relates to a serious assault near the Gull service station at Otaika, 7km south of Whangarei, last Wednesday night. Police are not seeking anyone else in relation to the assault.
