A 16-year-old who escaped from the Auckland Central Police Station on Sunday remains on the run.
The teen, who cannot be named because of his age, walked out of an unlocked interview room after being caught by police running from a stolen car.
The car had been taken from some flats in Avondale where several pensioners claim the teen broke into their homes and demanded money.
He punched one of them, 75-year-old Carl Joyce, in the face.
Police said he stole jewellery and small amounts of cash and grabbed keys to a Hyundai to make his getaway.
The teen has been on the run for two months after escaping from Child Youth and Family.
The police station escape has been referred to the Police Complaints Authority.
