Teen found dead in stream named

Police have named the young man whose body was found near a Hutt Valley stream last week.

He was 16-year-old Nikora Birch. The teenager was found dead by a passerby near Black Creek in Fullerton Grove, Wainuiomata, on Friday morning.

Detective Jared Rowe said the cause of death was still uncertain although it was not suspicious and the matter had been referred to the coroner.

Police were not seeking anyone in relation to the death.

Mr Rowe urged anyone who may be able to assist with Nikora Birch's movements on the day before he went missing to contact police.
