An 18-year-old is likely to face charges under the Animal Welfare Act over a cat being shot in the head with a cross bow bolt.
Wellington police spokesman Nick Bohm said the teen handed himself in over the incident, which saw Wainuiomata cat Moomoo needing surgery at the Massey University Veterinary Teaching Hospital last week.
"We're still considering charges under the Animal Welfare Act, and we're hoping to lay those charges tomorrow."
The bolt had gone in above the 4-year-old cat's left eye and emerged behind the ear.
Mr Bohm confirmed the 18-year-old had met with Moomoo's owner, Donna Ferrari, this morning.
