KEY POINTS:
A 16-year-old youth breathalysed after a car crash in Hastings today was found to be more than five times over the legal alcohol limit.
Police said the boy produced a reading 846mgm of alcohol per litre of breath - the legal limit is 150mgm for anyone under 20 - after the non-injury accident at Te Aute Hill.
The boy was also found to be holding only a learner driver's licence.
He had been referred to Hastings youth aid for careless driving and excess breath alcohol.
