A Rotorua teenager who was killed when the van he was travelling in collided with a truck on Thursday was on his way to collect a headstone for his mother's grave.
Timoti Anderson-Brown, 16, was killed and his older sister and her two children injured when the vehicles collided about 5.45am on the Mamaku Ranges, 20km northwest of Rotorua.
His sister, who was driving, remained in a stable condition in Rotorua Hospital.
Her children were both taken to Rotorua Hospital but one was later transferred to Auckland's Starship Hospital with serious injuries.
The truck driver was not hurt.
The family was collecting a headstone for their mother and grandmother, who died a year ago, The Daily Post reported.
Police said it was a frosty morning and there was ice on the road .
They were still investigating and appealed for witnesses to contact police.
