Teenager dies after clipped by a truck
A teenager has died after he was clipped by a truck in Napier while crossing a busy highway yesterday.
Anthony Lance Blackburn, 17, of Havelock North, died in Hawke's Bay Hospital as a result of his injuries, Senior Sergeant Dean Goodall said.
The accident happened at 3pm on State Highway 50 near the Kennedy Road off-ramp in Napier.
Mr Blackburn had pulled his vehicle over on one side of the highway, Mr Goodall said.
"Apparently he crossed the road to talk to another person on the other side of the road, probably an acquaintance, and he was returning to his car when he got hit."
He was clipped by the south-bound truck's rear-vision mirror.
Napier police are seeking information on the truck and its driver and are appealing for witnesses to the crash.
