A teenage driver has died after a crash with a logging truck in rush-hour Christchurch traffic yesterday.
Matthew Thomas Ngataki, a 19-year-old from the city, was driving a red Mitsubishi when he hit a logging truck near what police have called "a gentle bend" on Mairehau Rd shortly after 5pm.
Mr Ngataki, the only one in the car, died at the scene.
His death has been referred to the coroner.
"Canterbury Police are supporting Matthew's family who are devastated at losing a loved family member in such tragic circumstances," Senior Sergeant Scott Richardson said today.
