An 18-year-old woman involved in a crash in Apiti on Friday died in hospital the following day.
Jessica Watts, of Feilding, was thrown 15 metres when the car she was a passenger in crashed on Oroua Valley Road, Apiti.
The driver, a 21-year-old male from the Apiti area, and Miss Watts had been drinking at a friend's place for six hours before deciding to drive home, police said on Friday.
Sergeant Grant Lawton earlier said that the crash occurred when the driver failed to take a corner and the vehicle went over a bank and dropped five metres into a paddock.
Miss Watts was taken to Palmerston North Hospital in a critical condition and died on Saturday, police said.
