KEY POINTS:
A teenager was critically ill in Hutt Hospital last night after he and a 14-year-old friend were set upon by a group of others in Lower Hutt's Te Whiti Park.
Police said they were seeking witnesses to the incident, which happened about 5pm yesterday behind the gymnasium in the park.
A detective said the victims were sitting in a car when two youths and a woman in a white Nissan Sentra car pulled up alongside and "there was an altercation".
The 17-year-old suffered medical problems at the scene and was revived by paramedics. The 14-year-old victim had minor injuries.
Police stopped the Nissan Sentra in the Waiwhetu area soon after 6pm.
