A teenager has been charged with driving offences following a crash in Dunedin early yesterday which police say appeared to have happened during a street race.
Senior Sergeant Craig Brown said a Mitsubishi Libero slammed into street lights about 5am on a High St intersection after going out of control on a bend.
There were four people in the car and one of the two people injured remains in a serious condition in Dunedin Hospital.
"It is believed that the vehicle was racing another vehicle at the time of the crash," Mr Brown said.
He said police were trying to find the other vehicle and appealed for witnesses to contact them.
The 16-year-old driver of the crashed car was arrested yesterday and will face serious driving charges when he appears in Dunedin Youth Court next week.
