A 17-year-old will appear in court next week in relation to the fire on Paritutu Rock in New Plymouth last Friday.
The young man has been arrested and charged with intentional damage in relation to the fire, which is believed to have been started by fireworks.
Police were called to Paritutu Rock around 9.30pm last Friday after the fire started and spread rapidly.
While fire crews were working to put out the blaze it began to rain heavily, which helped extinguish the flames.
Public response to police requests for information about people setting off fireworks on Paritutu helped lead to the man's arrest.
