Swimming
Joe Hammond has done it again.
It was only a couple of weeks ago when the Carterton swimmer hit the headlines by breaking the Wairarapa record for the 100m backstroke set by Olympian Jon Winter in 1991.
Winter's time was 1min 0.69s and Hammond registered 1.0.08 in placing fourth in the boys 17-18yrs final at the national championships in Wellington.
Yesterday, Hammond lined up in the 100m backstroke at the national open championships in Auckland and his time of 1.0.59 in the heats qualified him for the B final, where he bettered his Wairarapa record in placing third in 1.0.00.
