A crew of volunteer firefighters in the Bay of Plenty had bottles at them thrown by a group of teen arsonists this morning.
The Opotiki Volunteer Fire Service responded to a callout at Opotiki College shortly before 4am, following reports that a tree on the college grounds had been set alight, Northern Fire Communications shift manager Jaron Phillips said.
Three teenage boys were seen running from the school when the fire crew arrived, but then seemingly re-entered the school, he said.
"While the firefighters have been there investigating, they've had bottles thrown at them.
"The fire crews then retreated back to their appliance and retreated from the scene to wait for police."
