KEY POINTS:
Police have arrested a 19-year-old youth in connection with two fires in the Whangarei suburb of Maunu this month.
The first fire destroyed a portable toilet unit and damaged a nearby fence at around 11.30pm on November 13. The second, lit a short time later in the women's public toilets at Barge Park, caused more than $70,000 worth of damage.
Detective Kelly Penney of Whangarei police says a 19-year-old electricity linesman will appear in Whangarei District Court today on two arson charges.
