A Scottish teenager has been arrested for fraudulently obtaining donations from Taupo residents by telling them he was raising funds to participate in a charity cycling event.
The 19-year-old man went door to door around central Taupo with a form for sponsors to sign.
Police launched an investigation after a concerned resident contacted the Taupo Cycle Club president, who said he had no knowledge of the event.
The unemployed man was arrested yesterday and will appear in Taupo District Court today charged with obtaining by deception.
