A teenager has been arrested in Mt Maunganui after an alleged attempted robbery this week involving a knife.
The 19-year-old forestry worker was charged with assault with intent to rob after allegedly presenting a knife at a female store-worker and demanding money from her on Tuesday.
The man allegedly left the souvenir shop on Maunganui Rd empty-handed and no one was hurt in the incident.
Detective Sergeant Alan Kingsbury said police were thankful with the "quality information" given by the public, and it was a significant factor in the arrest being made.
The man was expected to appear in the Tauranga District Court on Friday.
