A 16-year-old boy has been arrested after a 23-year-old man was seriously assaulted in the Waikato town of Matatoki overnight.
Thames Sub-Area Manager, Senior Sergeant Graham Shields, said emergency services were called to a Matatoki address, just south of Thames, about 5pm, following reports of an assault.
"Ambulance staff attended the 23-year-old victim's injuries and the man was taken to Waikato Hospital by ambulance with serious injuries and we understand he is in a stable condition in the hospital's High Dependency Unit," Shields said.
"Police officers conducting follow up enquiries located a 16-year-old male nearby a short time later and this male will be appearing in the Hamilton Youth Court today facing a charge of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm."
Shields said the boy was lucky not to be facing more serious charges, considering the injuries the victim suffered.
