Teen appears in court over Whangarei stabbing

A 19-year-old has appeared in court over a fatal street fight in Whangarei.

Whare Junior Pitman was in court very briefly, facing one charge of assault against Haki Tamihana. He was remanded in custody without plea.

Mr Tamihana was found dead by police after fighting erupted outside a popular Whangarei nightclub, early yesterday morning.

Police are still investigating the incident and say they are not sure if they will be pressing any more charges.

They are still waiting for the results of a post mortem examination, to establish exactly how the victim died.
