A teenager who allegedly burgled a Whangarei home and left his driver's licence in the house next to a smashed stereo has made an appearance in court.
Tyson Harris, 19, appeared in the Kaikohe District Court yesterday on a charge of burglary. He entered no plea and was released on bail to appear again on December 9. Harris was arrested following the burglary of a house in Onerahi on November 8.
Home owner and mother of two Andrea Jenkins told the Northern Advocate her home had been ransacked early on a Sunday morning and a large number of items taken. All the food from the fridge and freezer was also stolen in the raid, along with food for her pet turtle. Her children's clothes and toys were also taken.
Her brother, who lived with her family, tracked the alleged thieves to a nearby home and discovered them eating food stolen from their fridge and cupboards. A driver's licence was found at the house along with a cap on the driveway.
