Teen admits part in burglary of school

A 19-year-old Masterton teen who participated in a drunken break in and stealing spree at Martinborough School pleaded guilty to burglary in Masterton District Court yesterday.

Prosecuting, Sergeant Garry Wilson said that on May 19, April Lorna Marie Jackson, unemployed, entered the premises of Martinborough School.

"One of the associates forced open a window and climbed into the office, this defendant also climbed in," Mr Wilson said.

The value of property taken, including a laptop and wine, and damage caused was about $3000.

Mr Wilson said Jackson's share of reparations amounted to $500.

Defence lawyer James Elliot said it was Jackson's first appearance in the district court.

Mr Elliot said it was an associate's idea to force open the window at the school and that Jackson herself had done no damage to the window.

He said her contribution was taking bottles of wine.

Judge Michael Behrens remanded Jackson on bail, until August 22, for a pre-sentence report.

Judge Behrens said he would be looking at supervision among other things.
