A 17-year-old has pleaded guilty to two charges of causing injury to a husband-and-wife cycling duo near Taupo in May.
Jordan Lee Dobbyn of Atiamuri was charged with two counts of careless driving causing injury after he hit and injured cyclists David Joyce and his wife Sirpa Lajunen on Poihipi Rd, near Taupo, on May 25.
Mr Joyce suffered a cracked vertebra and shoulder blade, a dislocated rib and a large cut. His wife suffered back injuries and was badly bruised. Neither was in Taupo District Court today.
Dobbyn pleaded guilty to the charges of careless driving causing injury, but entered a not guilty plea to a charge of driving while his licence was revoked. He will reappear on October 23 for a defended hearing on that charge, and will be sentenced on the other two charges the same day.
His father, Timothy Joseph Dobbyn, 51, has been charged with counselling a person to drive while their licence was revoked. He has pleaded not guilty to the charge and reappears in court on October 11.
