A Masterton teenager has pleaded guilty to threatening a 61-year-old woman but has denied assaulting her.
Al Jay Tennant, 19, pleaded guilty, through his lawyer Frank Minehan, to one charge of threatening to pop the tyres on the woman's car when he appeared before Judge Tony Walsh in the Masterton District Court on Thursday. He also pleaded guilty to a charge of receiving $12,599 worth of electronic gear including cameras, radios and surveillance cameras but entered a not guilty plea to male assaults female.
Mr Minehan said his client acted in self defence and was provoked with "bring it on type of language".
"He denies attacking or initiating contact ... he admits grabbing her arm to release her hand," he said.
Tennant was prepared to undertake an anger management course, the lawyer said.
The assault and threatening charge relate to an incident on August 2.
Tennant was remanded to reappear for a review of the case on September 26.
Meanwhile, a warrant has been issued for the arrest of one of his co-accused on the receiving charge.
Judge Walsh issued the warrant to arrest Matthew David Horrobin, 21, who is facing a charge of receiving $12,599 worth of electrical equipment when he failed to turn up in court on Thursday.
Tennant and another man, David Hunter, are accused of receiving the property including radios, digital cameras and surveillance cameras knowing they had been stolen.
