A teenage gang member is due in court today after four men were severely injured in an attack in Gisborne early on Saturday.
About nine Black Power and Mongrel Mob members were involved in the fracas near Crawford Road about 1am, Detective Senior Sergeant Craig Scott of Gisborne police said.
Three men were admitted to Gisborne Hospital with severe lacerations to their bodies but had since been discharged.
A fourth man was airlifted to Waikato Hospital with serious facial injuries and would require surgery, police said.
A 17-year-old would appear in Gisborne District Court today charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
Police are appealing for witnesses to the attack to come forward.
A gang member shot in the face during a separate incident in the Hawke's Bay last week was discharged from hospital over the weekend.
The 20-year-old was taken to Hawke's Bay Hospital after the shooting in a Wairoa street about 10pm on Thursday.
Two gang members had been arrested in relation to the shooting.
