KEY POINTS:
A teenager charged with stealing guns, handcuffs and drugs from Dargaville police station last weekend is now alleged to have committed another burglary within hours of being released on bail on Monday.
The 16-year-old male had appeared in Dargaville Youth Court on Monday charged with burglary, possession of a firearm, possession of cannabis for supply, arson and theft of a motor vehicle and was remanded on bail to reappear today.
Senior Sergeant Irwin Van Pelt said this afternoon that the teenager reappeared in court today when he was charged with burglary and unlawfully being in a yard.
Mr Van Pelt said the teenager had been released on bail on Monday afternoon and that evening allegedly committed the burglary.
The teenager was now at a secure youth facility in Auckland, he said.
Mr Van Pelt said the teenager did not apply for bail today and police were expected to oppose bail tomorrow when the teenager was due to appear in Whangarei Youth Court.
The teenager was arrested on Sunday along with two women, aged 47 and 34, and a 34-year-old man after a police raid on a Dargaville house.
The other arrested people will face charges including resisting and obstructing police. They are due to appear in Dargaville District Court tomorrow.
Charges were laid after the police station was broken into early Sunday morning.
A stolen police car was found burnt out nearby.
Police are continuing to investigate how the breach of security at the station occurred.
