A fast-growing IT firm is offering a full internship to a tech-loving school leaver.
The earn-as-you-learn role is with Northland IT firm NorthCloud, a company passionate about giving back to the community it serves.
The team in Whangarei is looking for a quick-thinking local superstar to join its ranks as the area's IT industry is undergoing phenomenal growth.
No formal qualifications are required.
One of NorthCloud's directors, Matt Ryan, said the company wanted to find, develop and retain talent in the town.
"Being locals ourselves, we're passionate about being involved with our community and are keen to find develop and retain talent within the Northland region."
He said Northland had phenomenal growth potential in IT and while there are local study options they may not be assessable to the technology gifted for a myriad of reasons
"We want to create that opportunity."
Anna Scripps of NorthCloud said the motivation was to give the opportunity to someone with a brilliant mind who might not feel other options are for them.
"Our motivation with the internship is to provide something for a school leaver that wasn't around when we were 15," Scripps said.
"If there was an opportunity like this around when I left school I would be a lot further along in my career than I am now."
Scripps said her passion for this internship was partly inspired by her childhood friend in the early 2000s who hacked into the school computer system.
"I had a friend at school who was an amazing thinker and tech-obsessed," Scripps said.
"He hacked into the school system and got into a lot of trouble for it."
Scripps said punishment was inevitable but was disappointed no staff at the school recognised the boy's obvious tech ability - or encouraged him to use it for good.
"We are after that same type of person who is a relentless problem solver and loves all things tech," she said.
"The person we are looking for doesn't need qualifications but they need to be a hard worker who has a natural affinity with IT."
The internship is an earn-while-you-learn programme providing the "foundations you need to grow and succeed in this fast-paced and dynamic industry."
The successful applicant for the NorthCloud Internship Program would get the chance to work in the service department, from taking calls at the service desk through to working with senior engineers in the data centre and everything in between.
The intern would visit client sites with our engineers, build PC's and laptops in the workshop and be given the chance to see enterprise storage, virtualization, and network solutions.
