The film about the 1990 Aramoana shooting tragedy reduced many of the audience to tears at its world premiere in Canada yesterday.
More than 400 people filled the Paramount Theatre in Toronto for the official world premiere of Out of the Blue at the Toronto International Film Festival.
Director Robert Sarkies told the Otago Daily Times from the post-screening dinner that he was moved by the reaction to the film.
"A lot of people were wiping their eyes at the end of it. There were long periods, especially in the middle, where you could have heard a pin drop."
There was a long round of applause afterwards.
The 100-minute movie was mainly filmed at Long Beach between February and April this year.
Some scenes were filmed in Aramoana, where David Gray killed 13 people in a 22-hour rampage.
