Teams continue Tararua Ranges search for runner

Searchers are this morning waiting for a break in the wind to send up three helicopters, including an Iroquois helicopter, to scour the Tararua Ranges for a missing runner.

Alistair Shelton, 33, has been missing since going for a run on Saturday morning and failing to meet his family for lunch.

Heavy rain and high winds scampered yesterday's search.

This morning, searchers were hoping for a break in the wind to send up three helicopters.

A police spokesman said an Iroquois helicopter, and two other helicopters, were on standby and ready to take off when the wind eased.

Meanwhile, an aerial search for missing tramper Alistair Levy, 54, who has been missing in Kahurangi National Park near Nelson for more than a week, was yesterday postponed for a second day.

Mr Levy was last heard from a week ago after reaching the summit of Mt Owen, in the park's southern section.
