They may be the best of mates when they're sporting the same Wairarapa-Bush colours, but Corey Reid and Nick Olson will be giving no quarter when they square off in this weekend's NZ Marist XV vs Heartland XV clash at Masterton's Trust House Memorial Park.
Olson will be the sole Wairarapa player in the Heartland side, as will Reid in the Marist XV.
Posing for a preview photo shoot with the Times-Age yesterday, the two chuckled away any notion of colliding on the paddock tomorrow afternoon.
"He's too fast for me," said 22-year-old fullback Olson, who admitted he used to look up to his 25-year-old off-sider when he was at high school.
"Actually I still do look up to him," he added, making a joke about lock/loose forward Reid's dominating height.
"We're pretty excited about it. It's going to be a good way to top off the season," Reid said.
Wairarapa Bush Rugby Football Union chief executive Phil Taylor said the union was "pleased" to be able to host the match - the Heartland XV's only game of the year.
"It is very rare to see teams of this calibre at Trust House Memorial Park, especially those with local colour.
"The game kicks off at 2.30pm so come along to see the best players from the twelve Heartland Unions plus Marist players from all around New Zealand display their skills."
