Wairarapa have drawn a tough pool in next week's Curtis Cup under-13yrs boys hockey tournament in Levin but their lead-up form suggests they could be the "dark horses" of the competition.
In what is the second tier tourney for their age group, behind the Hatch Cup, Wairarapa are part of a five-team pool which includes three of the likely favourites in Hawke's Bay, Hutt Valley and Manawatu.
They will have actually confront Hawke's Bay first-up on Monday morning and then will follow Rangitikei on Monday morning, Hutt Valley on Tuesday morning and Manawatu on Tuesday afternoon.
Coach Grant Brewster admits the draw makes it tough on Wairarapa to fill a major placing but he has been bouyed by their pre-tournament form which has seen them secure five wins, one draw and just the two losses
"We've struggled for consistency at times but overall they've made good progress and the results have been encouraging," Brewster said.
