Secondary school teachers are going for a 7.5 per cent annual pay rise and are prepared to strike to get it. During two weeks of meetings the country's 17,000 secondary school teachers voted to reject an offer from the Government and to support a new claim lodged yesterday.
They are seeking smaller class sizes, improved pay for teachers with additional responsibilities, equitable non-teaching time for part-timers and 7.5 per cent increase on basic pay in one year.
The Government is offering a three-year deal comprising 4 per cent in the first year, 3.25 per cent in the second year and 3 per cent in the third year.
