KEY POINTS:
A relieving teacher has been fired and will appear in Balclutha District Court today after allegedly being caught drink driving three times in two weeks.
The 53-year-old teacher was sacked last Friday from South Otago High School, where he had been working for five weeks, the Otago Daily Times reported.
He was allegedly caught driving while over the legal alcohol limit late last month, again last Wednesday and again on Friday while his licence was suspended.
The school's board of trustees chairman, Charles Hakkaart, said they became aware of the teacher's offending when he was arrested last Wednesday.
"When we became aware of (last Wednesday's incident), we entered into discussions with him, but obviously when it happened again, well, that was the end of it from our perspective."
He appeared before a court registrar last Friday and was held in custody to reappear today.
