KEY POINTS:
Dunedin school teacher Sarah Dickson was philosophical after her parked car was squashed by a shipping container.
The teacher, who had been attending a conference nearby, was heading back to her car about 2.30pm on Friday with four nine and 10-year-old pupils, when she noticed traffic cones.
"I thought, 'oh no, not more annoying road works'."
Then she noticed the truck and her car squashed underneath.
"The police guys said 'You're taking it really well' and I said 'What else can I do?' I'm just thankful there was nobody in it and no one was hurt," said Mrs Dickson, whose 3-year-old daughter usually travels with her.
Sergeant Dave Scott said an articulated truck towing a trailer with a shipping container was heading from Dunedin to Port Chalmers when it rolled on to its side on a moderate right-hand bend near the Logan Park sports fields about 1.30pm.
The truck hit Mrs Dickson's parked Holden and the container landed on the car, partially squashing it. The 44-year-old truck driver was not injured.
Mr Scott said the container was carrying plant bulbs destined for export.
The police specialist commercial vehicle investigation unit and serious crash squad are investigating.
Mr Scott said the truck, trailer and the Holden were all extensively damaged.
Mrs Dickson said the four girls were taken home by another teacher also attending the conference.
