An Auckland teacher charged with sex crimes against teenage girls has been jailed.
Damian Christopher Gillard was sentenced to nine years and five months prison at the Manukau District Court today.
The 44-year-old was earlier convicted on a raft of charges relating to offending against seven pupils he taught at two Auckland schools. All Gillard's victims were under 16.
He was teaching at Papatoetoe High School until his arrest in July 2012.
The Herald revealed the charges against Gillard, and a further charge under the Passport Act after he attempted to apply for travel documents with falsified documents.
