English teacher Virginia Woolf has settled out of court with the board of Kelston Girls High School over a personal grievance claim for $350,000.
The deal comes nine days into an Employment Court hearing in which Ms Woolf claimed she was forced to resign in January, after teaching at the school for 14 years.
Her lawyer, Hugh Fulton, told the court on the opening day of the hearing that Ms Woolf had been the victim of oppression and dominance from the English faculty head, Judie Allison.
Ms Woolf was seeking compensation for humiliation, medical costs, back pay and loss of future earnings from the school's board of trustees.
A statement released by counsel for both sides said that the settlement was in the best interests of the school community and Ms Woolf.
It said there was no admission of liability or of the facts that had led to the grievance, particularly the allegations against Judie Allison and Linda Fox, as well as Ms Woolf.
The settlement sum would not be disclosed.
Ms Woolf's co-counsel, Paul Pa'u, said yesterday that she was relieved the matter was resolved after 14 months of turmoil.
An application will now be lodged with the Teachers' Registration Board to reinstate Ms Woolf's registration, which was withdrawn in April.
