Te Wananga sacks campus boss

The manager of the Rotorua campus of Te Wananga o Aotearoa is about to lodge a personal grievance claim against her employer after her employment was terminated.

Senior Rotorua lawyer Murray McKechnie, who is acting on behalf of the Rotorua campus manager Jenny Robinson, said the Maori tertiary institution terminated Mrs Robinson's employment earlier this week and she was no longer working for the organisaion.

"The employer has terminated her employment and that is not accepted and is being challenged ... There are employment issues which remain unresolved."

Mr McKechnie said he did not want to comment on why Mrs Robinson was sacked.

He told the Rotorua Daily Post she was upset about what had happened and was intending to take action with the Employment Relations Authority.

"The process is for her to lodge a personal grievance with the Employment Relations Authority asserting that she has been unjustifiably dismissed."

Mr McKechnie said if the matter could not be resolved by the authority then it would be taken to the Employment Court.

Mrs Robinson had worked at the Rotorua campus for eight years, had held various senior positions and had been manager for some time.

A Te Wananga o Aotearoa spokesman said it was an "employment issue" and he was unable to comment at this stage.
