A giant gingerbread house is taking shape in the foyer of Te Papa this morning.
A team of ten bakers and chefs are working to erect the entirely edible creation, which will be the size of a garden shed.
Executive chef Bernd Lippmann says the gingerbread cottage will have a wooden structure to help keep it up, but will be covered in plenty of tasty treats.
"We're going to have around 50kg of icing; we're probably going to have around 20kg of lollies on standby; along with the Smarties, we're going to have 10kg of Smarties."
The gingerbread house will be on display at Te Papa until early next year.
