National MP Georgina te Heuheu says she will not be joining the Maori Party.
Mrs te Heuheu raised eyebrows in the National caucus last week when she refused to rule out joining the party.
Maori Party co-leader Tariana Turia said the pair talked on Friday and while the issue had not been raised, she later suggested the National MP would be welcomed.
National leader Don Brash has been overseas, and on his return yesterday said he would raise the issue with Mrs te Heuheu because her comment "raises some questions and we need to address those".
But Mrs te Heuheu said she was "not joining the Maori Party".
She was yet to decide whether she had a future in National.
