KEY POINTS:
Christchurch police say they are following a positive line of inquiry in the hunt for two men after a taxi driver was slashed in the face requiring 20 stitches.
Detective Constable Bruce Lomax said the taxi driver had picked up two men early on November 24 and had no indication they would cause problems.
But, when the taxi stopped in the North Beach area of Christchurch both men produced a knife and attacked him before running away.
"He's received a knife wound from just under his right ear...across his check, to his mouth and another knife wound that runs along under his bottom lip," Mr Lomax told Radio New Zealand.
"It's quite a serious injury."
Police were following a positive line of inquiry, Mr Lomax said.
