Tax increases for smokers and drinkers

Increased alcohol and cigarette taxes will hit from today.

Hospitality Association chief executive Bruce Robertson says the tax increase on alcohol is about 2.8 per cent.

"But the manufacturers have taken the opportunity to increase their own costs, so by the time it gets to the retailer, the cost is more than 2.8 per cent."
