Tauranga MP Bob Clarkson promises he can build a new Baypark sports and exhibition centre 50 per cent bigger and $14 million cheaper than the city council envisages.
The property developer is so confident of his figures, that he has submitted a signed cost and design proposal to Tauranga City Council, saying he will build the new centre for $30 million.
Tauranga City Council chief executive Stephen Town said a project steering group would meet on April 14 to discuss Clarkson's proposals.
