A 19-year-old man has been arrested in the Bay of Plenty after allegedly doing 'burnouts' and fleeing from police.
Police say the man was driving a Nissan car which did a burnout in Papamoa, 19km southeast of Tauranga, just before 2am today.
He fled from a police patrol and led them around several streets before hitting a kerb and damaging a wheel, slowing the car down, said Senior Sergeant Glenn Saunders of Tauranga Police.
A 19-year-old unemployed Papamoa man was arrested when he stopped at a McDonald's restaurant and has been charged with failing to stop for red and blue flashing lights, reckless driving, sustained loss of traction, driving with excess breath alcohol and resisting arrest.
He will appear in Tauranga District Court on Friday.
