Container traffic at the Port of Tauranga is growing at more than 7 per cent a year, and the port needs a fourth huge crane at its Sulphur Pt wharf.
The 89m high crane will cost more than $10 million and take up to 18 months to build and commission.
International manufacturers have been asked for proposals and the successful bidder will be known by the end of next month.
