The man who killed Tauranga woman Sandra Rachel Brown, 58, and attempted to kill her daughter Kate, now 28, has been sentenced to life imprisonment.
Tamati Mason pleaded guilty to murder and attempted murder in May this year and was sentenced today in Rotorua High Court.
Mason has a non-parole period of 17 years.
Mrs Brown died after 20 separate stab wounds, three of which punctured vital organs, including both lungs. She died at her home soon after the attack, despite her son's desperate efforts to save her life.
Ms Brown was stabbed five times, receiving wounds approximately 3cm wide to her back, her chest, between her eyebrows, her inner right mid-thigh and a laceration to her spleen.
