Tauranga house fire hospitalises one

One person has been taken to hospital after a house fire in Tauranga ripped through a bedroom this morning.

Firefighters were called to the Landscape Road property in Otumoetai about 10am where they contained the fire to a bedroom, Fire Service northern communications manager Colin Underdown said.

The injured person suffered smoke inhalation and was taken to hospital after being treated at the scene.

The Fire Service received a 111 call from a person in the house.

It was unknown how many people were in the house at the time of the blaze, and whether smoke alarms had been in the house, he said.
