Tauranga fire victim improves

The condition of the man injured in a large fire at a wrecker's yard in Tauranga improved slightly yesterday.

Waikato Hospital, where the man was transferred after the fire on Monday, said Wayne Farrar's condition had been downgraded from critical.

"He's seriously ill but stable in the intensive care unit," a spokeswoman said.

Mr Farrar's workmates said he had suffered burns to his arms and back.
